If I put both the seat backs and pull up the leg rests, I have a sleeping surface more generous than some couches I've slept on. When I was working in Qatar, the furnished apartment I was assigned had more space than I like to take up on my own; I abandoned the bedroom entirely, and slept on an entire couch in the hallway between the living room and the bathroom. Two smaller armchairs, facing each other, made a cradle shape just big enough for me to curl up inside for naps. I don't think I slept well at all for the four or so months I lived there.

This morning, I woke up on a train, in motion, amongst strangers that were the same strangers around me when I went to sleep.

We'll cross West Virginia at some point. I wonder where we'll be when I wake up tomorrow.
